Celebrating art from days gone by...
Artists are the main characters in the telling of history. They capture history in unique and captivating ways that give those who come after them a chance to reflect on the past while getting a glimpse of what it might have been like.
We decided to rediscover the captivating creativity of artists past, with a special emphasis on artwork that captures Black and Indigenous people free from the narrow view of being enslaved or in some manner of suffering. We also highlight the artists who captured Black and Indigenous people and painted them with dignity and humanity. Lastly, we celebrate and bring awareness to Black and Indigenous artists from centuries past and make sure that their names stay ever-present in our consciousness.
*Please note that the original names of the artwork have been preserved, so some of the descriptions may contain words or descriptions that may be deemed politically incorrect today.
