It’s Tea Time!

Welcome to His-Tea-Ry! The place where we serve the “tea” on history, and it’s always piping hot!  His-Tea-Ry is our corner of the internet, where we share obscure pieces of the past, unfamiliar narratives, and historical proof to emancipate our thinking and shake off the tales that mainstream history has taught. Conveniently, these narratives don’t uplift, advance, or elevate us; unfortunately, many of us have swallowed them whole.   It’s time to create narratives that educate, empower, and drive us to change.

There are so many narratives to unpack, explore, and challenge.  As you can see from the teapot image in the logo, there are peculiarities around us that demand investigating.   This teapot is currently housed in a New York Museum and has so many pieces of history connected to it.  The history of “tea” has enough twists and turns to research that subject for years.  History surrounds us, from the names of the streets we cross to the names of the cities we live in and the companies that employ us. Still, many walk around unaware and uninterested in these origins.  The legacy of colonialism and imperialism encompasses more of our daily lives than we consider.  Once you start the journey of asking “why” and “how,” a whole new world of information unfolds, and we can’t wait to explore that world with you.

Consider this your informal invitation to join us as we make history plain and accessible, inclusive and engaging while centering the stories of Black and Indigenous people, whose narratives are often on the fringes of mainstream history.   We have and always will be the global majority, so isn’t it time we learn the suppressed stories of this international community?   Everyone is not a history nerd (I am), so it is my pleasure and passion to share what I’ve learned and continue to learn with those interested and seeking knowledge.  There must be a collective unlearning if we are ever to heal and reclaim the history, narratives, practices, and cultures that we have lost due to the impacts of colonialism and imperialism.
